How To Promote Recycling In Your Home

Recycling At Home
Use these strategies to recycle more at home.

Recycling is extremely beneficial for the environment, so it’s a good idea to do it as much as possible. Last week, we explored the topic of recycling more at work and this week we’ll tackle the subject of recycling at home. You spend a lot of time at home and there are a ton of opportunities to recycle while you’re there. Here are some great ways to embrace recycling in your home.

Reuse Your Containers

Recycling doesn’t necessarily have to mean that you’re sending materials off to a plant so they can be repackaged. You can recycle in your own home by repurposing various containers. Over time, we will use and dispose of countless containers made of various materials. Instead of throwing them away, you could reuse them for another purpose. For example, if you have a glass bottle you can wash it out and use it to store items in your home.

Recycle Plastic Bags

Chances are you’re already doing this, but if you’re not it’s an excellent idea to store plastic bags in your home to reuse them later. While having canvas bags would be the most environmentally friendly option, if you’re committed to using plastic bags it’s important not to just throw them away after their first use. You can find several purposes for these bags, so make sure you keep them around.

Repurpose Newspaper & Magazines

If you have newspapers and magazines delivered to your home, you’re probably well-aware of how they can pile up over time. They can take up a lot of space in your home, but this doesn’t mean that you should just throw them aware. These reading materials are both great for supporting fragile items, so use them to protect your glasses. If you’re interested in painting or any other hobby that could create a mess, laying some newspaper down will be extremely beneficial. In the case that you can’t find another purpose for these materials, make sure you recycle them.

Make Rags Out Of Old Towels & Shirts

After some time, you’ll have some towels and shirts in your home that have seen better days. Instead of just throwing them out, you can cut them up and turn them into cleaning rags. This will extend their usefulness a bit, allowing you to get more out of them.
